Giorgio BattistelliFrench premiere in Strasbourg for Giorgio Battistelli’s music drama in two acts Richard III, composed on a libretto by Ian Burton and based on Shakespeare’s tragedy. The Opéra national du Rhin has revived the original production by Opéra de Flandre (the world premiere was in 2005) and will perform it from 19th September (as part of the 2009 Musica festival) to 23rd of September. The stage direction is by Robert Carsen (taken over from Frans de Haas), with scenery by Radu Boruzescu and costume designed by Miruna Boruzescu. The Choeur de l'Opéra national du Rhin, the Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse and the Petits Chanteurs de Strasbourg will be conducted by Daniel Klajner. The soloists include Scott Hendricks (Richard III), Lisa Houben (Lady Anne), Lisa Griffith (Queen Elizabeth), Sara Fulgoni (Duchess of York), Urban Malmberg (Buckingham), Fabrice Farina (Richmond) and Philip Sheffield (Edward IV). There will be a further performance in Mulhouse on 4th October.
