World premiere of Carlo Boccadoro’s Point of View for jazz quartet and orchestra on 9th May at the Teatro Regio in Turin with the Orchestra Filarmonica ‘900 and the Detroit Torino Urban Jazz Project Quartet (tenor saxophone: Emanuele Cisi and Chris Collins; double bass: Furio Di Castri; and drums: Sean Dobbins). Conductor: Damian Iorio.
The concert is the first expression in symphonic form of a project that came into being in 2006 out of a meeting between Emanuele Cisi (the guiding spirit behind the Detroit Torino Urban Jazz Project) and the American saxophonist Chris Collins, the director of the Jazz Studies Department at Wayne State University in Detroit, and that has led to the organisation of a series of musical events in the two cities. The idea that underpins the project is that ‘music can act as a “driving force” in a program of social as much as cultural development aimed at cultivating the sense of “brotherhood” between Turin and Detroit, two cities unified by a past as car capitals’.
Point of view has been commissioned by Wayne State University.
