On 19th February at the Auditorium RAI, Turin, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra with Arturo Tamayo will perform the world premiere of Azio Corghi’s Filigrane bachiane, for piano and strings. Commissioned by RAI Nuova Musica, the piece will be performed by Maurizio Baglini, to whom it has been dedicated. Corghi explains that “Baglini’s request that I write, in this day and age, a Concerto per pianoforte caught me by surprise. The search for a point of departure took me back to my passionate study of Bach’s instrumental music. Out of this came the idea of taking certain fragments from Il clavicembalo ben temperato and making them stand out against the background of a previous composition of mine - to realise a transparent polyphonic texture in which the memory of certain familiar pianistic gestures emerges: figures which become visible against the light, like ‘watermarks’ on paper”.
