Next year will mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of Bruno Maderna (Venice 1920 - Darmstadt 1973). The Klangbiennale_2 is planning to commemorate the occasion with a series of concerts to take place in Frankfurt am Main on 21st and 22nd November and entitled Satellit Maderna. A highly active composer, conductor and teacher, Maderna was an impassioned ambassador for new music and a pioneer of electronic music. The programme of Satellit Maderna features a range of the composer’s most important works. Ausstrahlung, Serenata per un satellite and Quadrivium will be performed by the hr-Sinfonieorchester conducted by Arturo Tamayo. Also worth noting are two initiatives in the recording industry. The record company NEOS is releasing the opera omnia of Maderna’s orchestral music in 6 CDs: this project is strongly supported by Arturo Tamayo. While the CD Grande aulodia has recently been reissued in the Stradivarius/Ricordi Oggi Hallmarks series: as well as the piece that lends it its title the CD contains Julliard Serenade and Music of Gaity in recordings made between 1969 and 1971 by the RAI Symphonic Orchestra in Rome under the direction of Maderna himself.
