The 51st International Festival of Contemporary Music, Oltre la linea, directed by Giorgio Battistelli, came to an end on Saturday 13 October.
The Golden Lion for the Music of the Present has been awarded to Claudio Ambrosini for his work Plurimo (per Emilio Vedova),following the decision taken by theinternational jury comprising Laurent Spielmann (Opéra National de Lorraine, Nancy), Fortunato Ortombina (Teatro La Fenice, Venice), Hein Mulders (De Nederlandse Opera, Amsterdam), António Jorge Pacheco (Casa da Música, Porto), and Nele Hertling (Hebbel Theater, Berlin).
According to the jury, “Ambrosini succeeded to deliver in Plurimo the memory of Emilio Vedova and his art one year after his death, in an original way. The work impressed for a great treatment of the orchestra and, to quote it like Emilio Vedova would have done, for the fluidity, the mobile shape and the liquidity of the composition”.
In our debates –said the President of the jury Nele Hertling– we tried to focus on the work presented at the Festival and not on the knowledge we had about the background of the composer. The final decision was based on the idea to give the prize to a work of innovative individuality and personality, capable of fulfilling its artistic vision in response to the title of the Festival, “Beyond the Line”.
