Der Schuh Auf Dem Weg Sum Saturnio (un canto d’amore in 3 quadri) is the title of a new composition that Fabio Nieder has written for the 25th anniversary of ensemble recherche. It will be performed in Freiberg on 12th June in the course of the concert Liebe(s)lieder specially dedicated to the celebrations. The composition is for 9 instruments (flute, oboe/cor anglais, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, piano, synthesiser or accordion or electric organ and percussion).
The three images are taken from De Beeldenvreter, for concertante piano and European and non-European instruments (Dutch version) and Der Bilderfresser, for concertante piano and accordion, an orchestra divided into 18 groups and chorus (German version) and recomposed for ensemble.
The three images, attached to each other like the carriages of a train, with three 'words' acting as coupling hooks to link the images, tell the story of the shoe that the Trieste painter Vito von Thümmel lost while taking 'a marvellous walk'.
Slipping from the painter’s foot, the shoe, which Thümmel calls 'Tu,Du,You..., 'takes on a life of its own and walks and walks…
Each of its regular steps lasts 6/64 and they draw away from our planet, little world I, Trieste. In the company of a Strange Man, a UFO with claws, the shoe finishes up on 'Saturnio', big world II… and there he will remain up until when I write another series of images that will bring him back to our little world I…
